When my daughter was small, a friend of mine gave her a wonderful board book by Julia Donaldson called The Snail and the Whale. It starts off,
This is the tale of a tiny snail
And a great big, grey-blue humpback whale.
This is a rock as black as soot,
And this is a snail with an itchy foot.
I loved the story as soon as I read it, as it’s the story of a travel-loving snail who hitches a ride on a humpback whale to go off together on adventures around the world.
I’m a little like that snail. And every so often, I get an itchy foot. An urge to just do something different.
Luckily, my husband is the same! And the last couple of months we have decided to satiate that yearning for something different with a big ‘ole project. We’re moving.
Every time we move to a new house we say this is the house we’ll live in for 30 years. And each time the house hasn’t been that house. Maybe I’m just not the type to fall in love with houses. I’m more the type to fall in love with doing something new.
So, this February while I’m finishing up a great consulting project with an organization and starting another one with another, I’m also purging, cleaning, selling our house, finding a temporary place to live, making plans, and signing contracts to build a new house. As always, it’s abundant. And it’s helping my itchy foot.
The sea is deep and the world is wide!
How I long to sail!
Said the tiny snail.
Yep.
The universe is merely a fleeting idea in God’s mind – a pretty uncomfortable thought, particularly if you’ve just made a down payment on a house. ~Woody Allen
Ha ha, nice one!
