learning design
Create great learning experiences with us
We create learning experiences for clients in all modes. We can design for any subject matter because we partner with individuals from your organization and combine our respective areas of expertise to the project. We help make your learning experience impactful, fun, and engaging.
We aim to create e-learning (also called self-study or on-demand learning) that is both exciting for learners and effective in helping them learn independently. We often use Articulate Rise or Articulate Storyline 360 to develop courses that can be placed on a website or integrated into a learning management system (LMS). We also design e-learning for Moodle, Thinkific, and Brightspace platforms.
Example: We created a short e-learning course for the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), the Local Government Management Association (LGMA), and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs on the topic of responsible conduct for local elected officials. We used immersive storytelling approaches to make an interactive and engaging experience.
“I would strongly recommend Beth to health care organizations and others designing unique, interactive online learning. We had a team of clinical experts, interns and students new to practice in several disciplines. Many of the team members had never created interactive modules before. Beth patiently walked us through the process, from carefully crafting learning outcomes and interactive activities, to incorporating feedback from a varied audience.
Beth has a unique understanding of health care providers and the system. Many times we forgot she wasn’t a health care provider herself because she could take on the learners’ perspective so effectively. Beth was dependable, honest and fun to work with. She kept the momentum going to deliver the modules on time and within budget, resulting in a product that exceeded expectations.”
– Kathleen Yue, Director, Strategic Initiatives, BC Centre for Palliative Care –
Virtual sessions take place on platforms such as Zoom and are actively facilitated by one or more people. We create participatory, inclusive, and collaborative experiences for facilitators and participants rather than one-way presentations.
Example: We redesigned a strategic planning session with consultant Frank Atnikov to translate his in-person successes to the virtual mode.
“I have had the pleasure of working with Beth to engage in internal training around eLearning development and terminology, to create an internal terminology framework, and to create two self-paced, online courses; our Ethics Online Course and the Working Group on Responsible Conduct’s Responsible Conduct Every Day online course.
In my summative experience working with Beth and her team, I have found her to be extremely passionate, knowledgeable, and engaging to work with. She is a brilliant facilitator who “practices what she preaches” in a fun and engaging way. I would happily work with Beth again (and I plan to!).“
– Candace Witkowskyj, Executive Director, Local Government Management Association of British Columbia –
We are on a mission to create participatory and fun group learning experiences that focus on collaboration – not staring at a slide deck at the front of the room.
Example: We worked with the Canadian Cancer Society – BC and Yukon Division to redesign their volunteer orientation session for in-person, virtual, and self-study modes. Our goal was to make the orientation as captivating and energizing as possible for everyone involved.
“I first met Beth when I enrolled in a RRU course she facilitated. I thoroughly enjoyed her approach and style, so she came to mind very quickly when I decided to get some help with the creation of an online workshop. What stands out about Beth is the depth of her expertise and how easily she makes it available to you on your terms. She meets you where you are, shares generously, nudges without imposing and is committed to your success. A pleasure to work with!”
– Christine Maassen, Executive Coach, Facilitator, Consultant –
These types of courses are usually several weeks long and taken by participants who move through the course together week by week. They often include virtual sessions to make the entire course a blended experience. We help you create all course components and can teach your organization’s facilitators how to guide participants’ learning in this mode.
Example: We designed and developed several versions of a 7-week online course in the topic of lay navigation for cancer-related organizations such as the BC Cancer Agency. Participants in these courses are volunteers who are learning how to provide support to cancer patients.
