So much has happened in the last few weeks, I’ve barely had time to sit down and write about it. So tonight I scratch out a few minutes for an update.

Last week I spent three full days taking Christina Merkley’s Fundamentals of Interactive-Visuals course to learn about graphic recording and graphic facilitation. The class was a full-on paperfest with 19 other creative individuals like myself who love to play with markers! Seriously though, we were all there to learn how to integrate visuals (icons, colour, words, etc.) into our facilitation processes. That’s me above, practicing some of David Sibbet‘s star people and other great icons which will form the beginnings of my icon repertoire.

Now, my practice begins! With over three-quarters of the population being visual learners, I am completely sold on this way on co-creating learning with others and I am excited about tapping into my creativity to explore it. (And, as another participant mentioned in her blog post, it was fantastic to spend time with some new tribe members!)

In other news, the course I’m teaching at Camosun College – the Fundamentals of Event & Conference Management – started almost two weeks ago with a class of 12. They’re great participators and full of knowledge. This definitely is a teaching highlight of my career so far and I thank Camosun for the opportunity. This past week I channeled my new-found visuals knowledge into creating a huge 4 x 8 foot wall template to guide our class discussion on budgeting for events. No PowerPoints here! Markers, paper, tape and ideas formed the basis of that lesson which was lots of fun to lead.

Here’s a cropped image to give you a sneak peek at some of what we discussed.

I expect that this will be the first of many posts to come in which I’ll talk about how I’m integrating visuals into my facilitation practice and life. I just couldn’t be more excited about it!

Stay tuned for my next post where I’ll share some other changes that are going on in my work life including some new business directions. It IS a busy time…
